About On The Beach Counseling

Meet Shevach Tamir, LCSW

Shevach Tamir is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Miami Beach, Florida, with over 16 years of experience working with children, parents, families, and individuals navigating some of life's hardest moments.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Touro University and a Master of Social Work from Wurzweiler Graduate School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. He is fully licensed in Florida as an LCSW.

His clinical career spans private practice, trauma centers, school settings, and community agencies — including work as a Trauma Therapist at The Mental Pain and Trauma Center, where he worked with PTSD related to shootings and car accidents, and as a School Social Worker in New York. He has worked with thousands of kids and families across more than a decade of hands-on clinical practice.

He currently runs On The Beach Counseling PA, a private practice offering psychotherapy services in Miami Beach for individuals, children, teens, parents, and families — in person, on the beach, or via teletherapy throughout Florida.

The WISE Parenting Method

Shevach is the creator of the WISE Parenting Method — a practical, trauma-informed framework designed to help parents raise emotionally resilient children by reclaiming their own emotional leadership at home.

The method was built from 16 years of working directly with kids and the parents trying to reach them. It moves parents away from shame and reactive patterns — and toward grounded, connected responses that create lasting change. The WISE Parenting Method is not a set of rules. It's a shift in how parents understand themselves in relation to their children.

Shevach offers the WISE Parenting Method through individual therapy sessions, group coaching, and public speaking engagements.

The Sports Social Work Method

Shevach is also the founder of the Sports Social Work Method — an evidence-based approach that integrates emotional learning through real-time experiences in sports and play.

The method is grounded in neuroscience research showing that learning and behavioral change begin in the limbic system — the part of the brain whose language is experience and emotion, not instruction. By using sports and play as the vehicle, the Sports Social Work Method reaches children in the way their brains are actually wired to learn.

Shevach has trained educators and sports coaches in schools using this approach, and has spoken publicly on emotional and behavioral development across multiple settings.

Published Work

Shevach writes regularly on parenting therapy, trauma, and emotional development. His articles have been published on Medium and Substack, and cover topics including:

  • Why parents yell — and what neuroscience says about the stress response behind it
  • Why telling children to "just ignore" mean peers backfires — and what to do instead
  • Positive Attribution — a practical method for helping children reframe criticism and build confidence
  • How overworking can be a trauma response
  • Why "keeping the peace" can harm children's emotional development
  • How to parent through emotional storms without losing your own regulation

His writing draws directly from his clinical work and the frameworks he has developed over 16 years in practice.

Our Approach

Every session at On The Beach Counseling is built around three things: the client's own strengths, their right to self-determination, and a therapeutic relationship built on trust.

Shevach uses a client-centered, strengths-based approach as the foundation of all his work — which means the client leads, and the therapist follows. CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, attachment-based therapy, motivational interviewing, and Child-Parent Psychotherapy are the tools. The relationship is the vehicle.

Sessions are available for individuals, children, teens, parents, and families. In-person sessions are held at the Miami Beach office. For clients who prefer it, sessions can be held literally on the beach. Teletherapy is available for clients anywhere in Florida.

Sliding scale rates are available. Therapy should be accessible — that's been part of this practice from the beginning.
